Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well being of children. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children. The stages of play, while they may seem boring to adults are essential to the developing child. We have all witnessed our children opening and closing things over and over, putting articles in a box and spilling them out, dropping an object and you picking it up again and again. This is why we have “Put and Peek” items, shape sorters and manipulative toys. The toys become more complex as the child grows older.
