Casey is our Chocolate Labrador Retriever. He and his buddy Grace - a Black Lab are often in the store with us. Because they are such a large part of the Picayune Family, we thought they could have their own corner and bring you fun facts about toys, dogs and other interesting things. Since Halloween is near, our first "Fun Facts" will be about Labrador Retrievers and Halloween.
Did you know that the first Labrador Retrievers were bred to retrieve fishing nets? They are great swimmers and have webbed feet. Their tails are strong rudders to guide them in the water. That is why their tail is referred to as an "otter tail"
Labrador Retrievers are the numnber one dog breed registered by the American Kennel Club. The colors recognized by AKC are black, yellow and chocolate.
FUN FACT 2: Did you know that trick or treating was started in Ireland? On Halloween, the peasants would beg the rich for food. For those that refused, they would play a practical joke on. So, in an effort to avoid being tricked, the rich would hand out cookies, candy and fruit - a practice that morphed into trick or treating today.
